Ogun Deputy Governor Denies Attack During Students’ Protest

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has denied reports circulating on social media claiming she was attacked by protesting students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta.

During a solidarity visit from the institution’s management, led by Rector Arc. ‘Koye Jolaoso, Salako-Oyedele clarified that the students were engaged in a guided protest against a newly introduced fee regime.

A statement by MAPOLY’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Yemi Ajibola, explained that the deputy governor was on her way to Alamala for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day when her security team noticed the crowd and redirected her vehicle without any incident.

Salako-Oyedele stated, “If I had been attacked, I would not have gone to attend the program at Alamala, but I went when I was told they had gone.

“I just want all of us to be careful of social media, as it has caused many people calling me to ask after me on reading or hearing the news.”

The deputy governor also encouraged the students to embrace dialogue and peaceful methods when addressing issues.

Earlier, Rector Arc. Jolaoso apologized on behalf of the students and requested her forgiveness, saying, “We came on behalf of the Governing Council, management staff, and students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, to apologise for what happened yesterday and the embarrassment it might have caused you.”

The visiting delegation included Deputy Rector Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, Registrar Mrs. Olubunmi Elewodalu, Polytechnic Librarian Alhaja Basirat Akintunde, Bursar Mrs. Folasade Madariola, FCA, the Chairmen and Secretary of the three staff unions on campus, and the PAR in the Registrar’s office, Mrs. Feyisola Ayeni.
