Okonjo-Iweala Distances Self from Viral Investment Scam Video
Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has warned Nigerians about a fake AI-generated video circulating online that falsely promotes an investment scheme in her name.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Okonjo-Iweala clarified that the video is not from her and urged the public to ignore it.
She said, “Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I just don’t want people to be duped.”
The video features a voice resembling Okonjo-Iweala inviting Nigerians to join an “official programme” promising to help participants “secure and grow their wealth.”

It claims participants can earn up to N2.66 million in a week after a minimum investment of N380,000, with daily automatic returns and “government-backed investments.”
The scheme reportedly targets Nigerians over 30, with only 4,000 slots available, claiming that over 80 percent have already been reserved.
Promoters also assert that the platform is managed by experts who can analyse financial markets and ensure the security of funds.
Okonjo-Iweala, however, distanced herself from the scheme, noting that she does not post on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, but only on X.
