On The Hustings: Ileri Oluwa’s Momentum Soars

By Solomon Odeniyi

The popularity of Ileri Oluwa, a political caucus linked to Mr. Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Osun is gathering steam by the day as the group continues to harness impressive, unanticipated support in its current campaign swing through  the state.

The group started its campaign tour penultimate week to drum support for its governorship aspirant, Oyetola, who is also the current Chief of Staff to the state governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. The tour which took off in Ife-South has been witnessing impressive turn-out of people in support of the group.

A convergence of opinion is in the direction that of all the political groups – both within the ruling party and the opposition parties – currently touring the state to solicit support for their aspirants, in the upcoming primary elections, IleriOluwa is taking the lead in terms of massive support from the people.

The support base has been impressive, confirming the perception that Ileri Oluwa’s candidate, Oyetola, has a head start in the contest to win the party’s primary election coming up on the 7th of July, 2018.

Politics is of course, not mathematics and a week is a long time in politics, nevertheless, suc is the steam being garnered by Oyetola that the conventional wisdom converges on the proposition that he is way ahead in the hunt for delegates.

What is more? If he is able to successfully scale through the party primary, then the general election of September 22nd is likely to be a walk-over for him. This is because it will be difficult for any other political party to defeat the APC in the general election as the incumbent governor has paved the way for the success of his party in the coming governorship election through his stellar performance.

Ogbeni Aregbesola has performed excellently well such that the people are not ready to vote for any other party apart from APC because it is only the party that can ensure continuity of the lofty and laudable programmes of Aregbesola.

For Osun people, to vote for any other political party will surely be tantamount to a reversal of the gains already recorded during Aregbesola era.
