Ondo APC Primary: Voters Scramble For Safety As Violence Breaks Out At Voting Centre
Violence erupted on Saturday at Ward 1 of Stella Maris College, Okitipupa, as rival supporters of two All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants clashed over the party’s selection of a candidate for the November 16 Ondo State Governorship election.
It was learnt that Party members, who had assembled in large numbers early to partake in the candidate selection process, reportedly fled the scene when the altercation between rival supporters broke out.
Reports suggest that both accreditation and voting procedures had yet to begin when the violence erupted, prompting voters to seek safety.
An undisclosed voter told newsmen on condition of anonymity that a representative of a candidate arrived at the polling station, seized the validation and accreditation documents, and promptly departed
“One of the agents came here, snatched the validation and accreditation papers, and fled the venue in his car.
“They chased him, but could not catch him. This caused the violence,” he said.
According to The Nation, the security agents at the ward were unable to contain the violence and everyone fled the scene.
