The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ondo State, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, has confirmed the arrest of 19 suspects linked to the deadly cult clash that occurred in Owo, Owo Local Government Area, on Monday.

During his official resumption as the 45th Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Afolabi addressed journalists in Akure on Tuesday, revealing that four individuals lost their lives in the violence.

The newly deployed CP assured the public of his dedication to restoring peace and ensuring justice for the victims.

“Those arrested will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Afolabi declared.

Following the incident, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in Owo to prevent further violence and restore normalcy.

While inspecting the compliance level during his visit to Owo on Tuesday, Afolabi reported that calm had been restored.

“So far, so good, normalcy has returned to the town, and there is calm and peace across the area. We have 19 suspects in our custody, and we have only four people confirmed dead in our records,” he stated.

Afolabi assured residents that a comprehensive investigation was underway to determine the root cause of the clash.

“For the lovers of peace, we can assure them of a conducive environment. But for those who hate peace, they will not find it easy because wherever they go, we will follow them, and the laws of the land will catch up with them,” he warned.
