Ondo Poly Student Allegedly Commits Suicide
A 20-year-old Computer Engineering student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), identified as Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his apartment in Emure-Ile, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, in an incident suspected to be suicide.
The discovery was reportedly made after neighbours noticed a strong odour coming from the student’s room along Awolowo Road.
Concerned residents forced the door open when efforts to reach him proved unsuccessful, only to find his lifeless body inside the apartment.
A neighbour, who spoke on the incident, said the situation left residents shocked, adding that the police were immediately contacted.
He noted that no suicide note was found at the scene.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said operatives were promptly deployed to the location.
He said, “The Ondo State Police Command confirms the report of a suspected suicide incident at Emure-Ile involving a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, who was found dead in his residence.
“Police operatives promptly visited the scene, where the body was recovered and deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Preliminary observations suggest a case of suicide; however, a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Jimoh added that the command sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to seek support in difficult moments.
He said, “The Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to seek support and speak up during moments of emotional distress, as help is always available.”
