A 34-year-old woman, Adeleke Ruth, from Akure in Ondo State, has appealed to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and relevant authorities for protection after reportedly losing two pregnancies following repeated assaults by her estranged lover, Adesola Abiodun, also from the state.

According to the family, the attacks, which began about two years ago, have left Adeleke traumatised and living in constant fear for her life.

They alleged that Abiodun, who often boasts of being “highly connected,” has continued to threaten her, vowing to kill her “anywhere he finds her.”

The matter was first reported at the Akure Police Station in 2023, but family members said the police had taken no concrete action despite several complaints.

They accused Abiodun of evading arrest and using his alleged connections to escape justice.

Tragedy struck on May 24, 2023, when Adeleke reportedly lost a 24-week pregnancy after an alleged physical attack by her partner. Again, on November 17, 2024, she lost another pregnancy; this time at 36 weeks, following a separate assault that doctors said resulted in a stillbirth and severe bleeding.

The violence reportedly extended beyond Adeleke. On June 2, 2024, Abiodun allegedly attacked her younger brother, inflicting a deep cut on his ear. The family said the two were never married but had lived together before separating due to continuous abuse.

After their separation, Adeleke remarried, but the assaults did not stop. Her ex-lover allegedly resurfaced months later and attacked her husband, breaking his arm before fleeing the scene. The husband is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Akure.

The family said the suspect continues to issue threats to anyone who attempts to protect Adeleke, forcing her to consider fleeing the country as a last resort.

“We have reported the matter to the police several times, but nothing has been done. Our daughter’s life is in danger,” a family member said.

The family has therefore called on the Ministry of Women Affairs, human rights organisations, and security agencies to intervene urgently to ensure Adeleke’s safety and bring her assailant to justice.
