#OndoDecides2024: Labour Party Vows Mass Protests, Legal Battle

The Labour Party in Ondo State has issued a strong statement regarding the state’s ongoing governorship election.

Olabisi Adu-Okunniyi, the Labour Party’s deputy governorship candidate, said in a statement by her media assistant, Olubori Obafemi, that if the results are deemed falsified or rigged, the Labour Party, along with other aggrieved parties, stakeholders, and youths, will take to the streets in protest and pursue a robust legal battle.

The current election results show the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leading in 15 local government areas, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailing behind.

However, disputes have arisen in Idanre Local Government Area, where the PDP agent alleged vote buying, ballot box snatching, and election absence in some areas.

Adu-Okunniyi expressed concerns over the integrity of the governorship election.

According to Adu-Okunniyi, early reports from Labour Party agents revealed widespread incidents of vote buying and voter intimidation across the state.

Adu-Okunniyi urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the credibility of the election and prevent desperate politicians.

“Any polling unit result not uploaded on INEC Portal at the Polling Unit, in real time, or with mutilated view, cannot be said to be credible or in concurrence with the electoral act and so should be nullified, as our agents have reported incidents in this regard, expressing serious implications about the credibility of the elections,” she said.

“So, we call on INEC to be vigilant and not to allow mutilated or falsified results to undermine the integrity of this election as the case of Edo elections, as we are set to mobilise and join other stakeholders in resisting the imposition of rigged elections, falsified results and unpopular government on the good people of Ondo State.’

According to her, a stakeholders’ review meeting is scheduled for Monday to scrutinize the integrity of the election.

This gathering will bring together key stakeholders to thoroughly examine the electoral process, addressing concerns and potential irregularities. During the meeting, a definitive decision will be made regarding the fate of the election.

“But if the election is deemed unflawed and credible, we shall be the first to congratulate whoever emerges as the winner of the elections,” she added.
