One Dead, Houses Destroyed As Windstorm Hits Nasarawa Community
At least one personhas been confirmed dead, with several others injured, while more than 150 houses were destroyed in Agbashi community, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following a rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the area.
The Vice Chairman, Doma LGA, John Bako Ari, who confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday, said the tragedy occurred Tuesday evening, leaving several people homeless.
According to Bako Ari, over 150 residential houses, churches, mosques, and schools were destroyed.
“It is true that the windstorm destroyed over 150 houses, including mosques and schools. The incident happened yesterday evening,” the vice chairman said.
Also speaking on the incident, Acting Chairman, Agbashi Development Association (ADA), Anthony Oshinyeka, described the incident as unfortunate, stating that Bassa settlement in Iponu, outskirts of Agbashi, was badly affected as one man lost his life while seven others were injured.
Oshinyeka called on both the state and federal governments to urgently intervene to cushion the devastating effect of the windstorm on the distressed people of Agbashi community.
The acting ADA chairman also solicited immediate release of relief materials and medical aid to the affected communities.
