One Dead, Six Injured In Stampede At Defence Minister’s Home
A 23-year-old man, Khalifa Uzairu, has reportedly lost his life while six others sustained injuries in a stampede at the home of the Minister of Defense, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State.
According to security sources on Friday, the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when a large crowd gathered to welcome the minister.
Zagazola Makama reported on X handle that the situation became chaotic and led to a stampede.
The victims including Uzairu, who was confirmed dead on arrival at Farida General Hospital.
Others taken to the hospital were Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu, and Inusa Musa Shehu.
Officials said the remaining injured victims are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
Security personnel have been deployed to restore order, and investigations are underway to find out what caused the stampede and who may be responsible.
Authorities urged the public to exercise caution and cooperate with security measures to avoid similar incidents during official events.
