The Isiaka Ajumobi-led All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has stated that plans of opposition parties in the state to subvert the wish of the electorate in the 2019 governorship election would fail.
The Punch reports that the ruling party said in a statement that “The leadership of some opposition political parties have, in recent times, been involved in talks with a view to dislodging the ruling APC in 2019, using the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. Notable among the parties are Accord Party, Social Democratic Party and Labour Party.
“What they are planning is a civilian coup against the electorate. But it will not see the light of day. Most characters involved in the gang-up have had opportunities in the past to impact positively on the lives of the people but they failed,” the APC Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare, said in a statement issued on Saturday.
“Among Rashidi Ladoja’s co-travellers is Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, who has a penchant for sneaking into Ibadan from his Lagos abode to cause political mischief, like he did at the Olubadan’s palace few days ago. Or, are we to talk about a politically naive big spender, and some troubled ‘guests’ of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as capable of dislodging the APC in 2019?
“Nigerians will not support any alignment, re-alignment or gang-up by the PDP and similar elements in future elections. All those planning to benefit from such scheme should realise that it will end in futility.”
