Oriade LCDA Kicks Over JABU’s Non-compliance With Town Planning Laws

The management team of the Oriade South Local Council Development Area, in Ipetu-Ijesa, State of Osun has read riot act over the alleged failure of the authority of Joseph Ayo Babalola University to comply with due processes in erecting structures and buildings in the university.

According to a statement by the Information Officer of the council, Mrs. Oladipupo Yemisi, the council established that the university authority failed to comply with the stipulated Laws and Town Planning guidelines when the officials of the Town Planning and Land Services Department went on visitation to the university on 7th August, 2017 to ascertain if the Buildings and Structures in the Campus were duly approved.

The statement said when the discovery was made, the management committee of the council made efforts by writing letters and holding several meetings with the JABU Authorities, saying, no positive response has since been received from the university.

The statement read: “Joseph Ayo Babalola University is a Christian-owned university located in Ikeji-Arakeji, a town in Oriade South LCDA, Ipetu-Ijesa. The LCDA was created in the year 2015 by the government of the State of Osun and one of the departments in the council area is the Town Planning and Land Services charged with the responsibility of studying and granting approvals to buildings and structures erected within the Council Area.

“Consequent upon the above, some Officials of the Town Planning and Land Services Department with the executive committee members of the council went on visitation to JABU on 7th August, 2017 to ascertain if the buildings and structures in the campus were duly approved in accordance with the stipulated Laws and Town Planning guidelines.

“Surprisingly, none of the buildings and structures within the campus of JABU had been approved as stipulated by law.

“The Executive Secretary, Oriade South LCDA, Hon. Felix Olaleye Aboge has therefore directed that this publication be made to inform the indigenes of the council of what is going on between the LCDA and JABU”, the statement read.

The council, according to the statement then appealed to the JABU authorities to cooperate with the government, with a view to ensuring that the council raises the required revenue that can be used to embark on meaningful projects for the citizens to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

It restated that the council management is committed to ensuring peace and harmony with all organisations and individuals within and outside the council, imploring the university management to have a rethink and come to an understanding with the council management.
