ORMA Commences Road Rehabilitation

By Sola Jacobs

Osun Road Maintenance Agency (ORMA) has commenced rehabilitation works of a 4.6km road networks in Iwo community and some other parts of the state.

General Manager of the agency, Engr. Mathew Olu Olowokere, made this known last weekend while speaking with newsmen during the ongoing rehabilitation work in Iwo.

Olowokere, who said the development was meant to change the face of Iwoland, through rehabilitation of the road networks, noted that, the rehabilitation work was in line with the efforts of Governor Rauf Aregbesola towards rapid intervention and repair of roads not only in Iwo community but across the state.

According to the ORMA boss, “the agency is on top of the situation to ensure that quality job is done to fix affected roads on time as directed by the governor”.

“ORMA has specifications, standards and moreover, we carry out tests on our materials before they are used. We also carry out control test on the road when work is ongoing”, he emphasized.

Olowokere, who blamed short durability of some roads to abuse by the road users through overloading, stressed that roads that are subjected to unlimited loading would not be durable.

The GM added that indiscriminate erection of bumps by some communities on roads to control speed, also contribute to bad condition of roads.

“Sometimes, these bumps contribute to accidents especially for the unwary road users who ply such roads and meet bumps unexpectedly. This is because those erecting bumps don’t follow regulations, no warning signs and even if they are to put bumps they should follow specifications.

“They should liaise with the state Ministry of Works, or the agency for better ways to limit speed on roads instead of erecting bogus bumps on roads themselves”, Olowokere advised.

He then cautioned motorists to abide by the traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads, to enable site workers discharge their duty effectively.

The ORMA boss assured the people of the state to expect consolidation and value addition to Governor Aregbesola’s economic foundations as well as expectation of greater dividends of democracy from the incoming administration.
