The intervention of leaders of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) Students, Osun State Polytechnic Iree Campus on Wednesday prevented what would have snowballed into a full-blown clash among members of paramilitary groups in the institution.
An eye witness told OSUN DEFENDER Campus correspondent that the FICT was celebrating its annual week when the paramilitary group, Cadet, Opiaca and Man’O’War had disagreement which nearly resulted to clash.
The witness said, due to the rivalry among the groups, the leader of the Cadet team triggered the disagreement by directing his boys to attack members of Opiaca and Man O’War whenever they meet outside the campus.
It was this statement, according to the witness that infuriated the rival groups who also offered to engage in fisticuffs with the Cadet group.
Though, the intervention of the FICT leadership prevented the clash within the campus, but it could be ascertain as at the time of filing this report whether the group eventually engaged in any clash outside the campus.
However, the FICT Auditor, Daniel Gbenga said the annual social event hosted by the union executive tagged “FICT WEEK” featured Quiz competition, Back to school and raffle draw, FICT cup final and jersey day, as well as cultural day.
According to him, the quiz took place last Tuesday among students of Mass Communication, Office Technology Management and Computer science departments, saying, the Mass Communication later emerged as best academically sound department in the FICT.
