OSPOLY Students In Panic As Cultists, Opiaka Clash, Destroy Properties
Panic broke out in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, on Monday, following a violent clash between suspected members of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity and a self-acclaimed anti-cultist group known as Opiaka, causing widespread fear among students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY) and residents of the community.
OSUN DEFENDER learnt that the clash, which reportedly occurred in the Ladoja, Igaa and Wuraola areas of the town, was marked by sporadic gunshots and destruction of properties including residential houses, vehicles and generators.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to OSUN DEFENDER said residents were thrown into confusion as hoodlums exchanged gunfire in broad daylight, forcing many to remain indoors for their safety.
In response to the unrest, the Chairperson of the OSPOLY Students’ Union Caretaker Committee, Miss Olaniyi Ajoke, issued a cautionary statement urging students to remain indoors and be security conscious.
“Our top priority is your safety and well-being. We urge you to be aware of your surroundings, avoid walking alone in isolated areas, and stay informed about potential risks,” she said.
As of the time of filing this report, the root cause of the clash remains unknown, and no official casualty figure has been released.
