Osun 2026: I Defeated Adeleke’s Brother Before, I’ll Do It Again – Ex-Senator Husain
Former Senator representing Osun West, Mudashiru Husain, has declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, vowing to unseat incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Husain, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and long-time political rival of Adeleke, made the declaration while addressing party supporters in Osogbo.
He stated that he is fully prepared to reclaim the governorship seat for the APC if given the party’s ticket.
In a statement issued by the head of his campaign media team, Victor Ojelabi, Husain said he possesses the political capacity, experience, and support of the people to lead Osun and return it to the path of purposeful governance.
“I defeated Isiaka Adeleke in 2011 and conceded the ticket to him in 2014. I can do it again,” Husain said.
He recounted his sacrifice in 2015, when he stepped down for the late Isiaka Adeleke, a move which he claimed indirectly helped Ademola Adeleke rise politically after his brother’s death.
“With the backing of my party and the people of Osun, I am confident in my ability and experience to lead the state and restore purposeful governance under the APC,” he added.
It was recalled that Husain and Adeleke clashed in the 2017 Osun West Senatorial by-election, which Adeleke, then of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won shortly after the death of his brother.
Husain’s declaration adds to growing tension within the APC, as multiple aspirants gear up ahead of the 2026 governorship poll, determined to dislodge the PDP-led administration in Osun.
