Campaign activities for the 2026 Osun State governorship election officially commence today, Wednesday, following a reminder by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to political parties and candidates to begin campaigns in line with electoral regulations.
In a statement issued by the commission’s Public Affairs Officer in Osun State, Musa Olurode, the electoral body said the commencement of campaigns follows the timetable and schedule of activities released ahead of the poll.
INEC noted that the election is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026, urging political actors and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the campaign period.
The commission warned political parties against engaging in acts capable of threatening public peace, including violence, hate speech, and the use of abusive language during political rallies and engagements.
INEC further advised candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns that would enable voters to make informed choices when they head to the polls.
According to the statement, the electoral body called on stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media, and the general public, to play their roles in ensuring a peaceful political atmosphere in the state.
The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a credible and transparent election.
Fourteen political parties, including the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), among others are participating in the much awaited election.
