Osun 2026: Politics Not a Battlefield of Insults, ADC Gov Candidate Salaam Cautions Supporters
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Hon. Najeem Salaam, has cautioned his supporters against engaging in insults, abuse and personal attacks as political activities ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election intensify.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Salaam stressed that politics shsaould be issue-based and driven by ideas rather than hostility, urging his supporters to uphold the Omoluabi values of dignity, integrity, respect and honour which define the people of Osun State.
“Politics is, at its core, a contest of ideas, not a battlefield of insults,” Salaam said. “As we advocate progress and mobilise for meaningful change, let us conduct ourselves in the true spirit of the Omoluabi,” he stated.

The ADC candidate expressed appreciation to members of his movement at home and abroad, with particular commendation for supporters actively engaging across social media platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and WhatsApp.
He made a special appeal to his online supporters to refrain from engaging in abusive or demeaning conversations against political opponents.
“We can prosecute our campaign with passion without descending into recklessness. We can offer constructive criticism without demeaning others.
“We can win arguments and persuade minds without damaging the bonds that unite us as a people.”
According to Salaam, despite political differences, the people of Osun State remain bound by a shared heritage, common challenges and collective aspirations.
“Ultimately, we are all children of the same soil, proud indigenes of Osun State. Our shared heritage and aspirations far outweigh any differences that may exist among us,” he said.
Calling for maturity and civility in political engagement, Salaam noted that Osun can set a positive example for the rest of Nigeria by practising politics rooted in respect and unity rather than division.
“Let us practice politics with maturity, civility and pride, and in doing so, demonstrate to Nigeria that leadership from Osun can be anchored on respect, unity and purpose,” he added.
Reaffirming his confidence in the movement, the ADC aspirant said, “I believe deeply in this movement. I believe in your wisdom and sense of responsibility, and I am confident that together, we will change the narrative without losing our values in the process.”
He concluded by urging supporters to remain committed to the Omoluabi ethos as the 2026 governorship election approaches.
