Osun ADC To APC: Campaign with Oyetola’s Record, Not Borrowed Legacies
The Osun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to campaign based on the verifiable achievements of former governor Gboyega Oyetola, rather than what it described as “borrowed legacies” from previous administrations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ADC New Media team said political campaigns in Osun State should reflect honesty and accountability, insisting that each administration must stand on its own record.
The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Akande Abimbola, argued that recycling past achievements undermines democratic accountability and deprives voters of the opportunity to properly assess leadership performance.
The statement noted that if Oyetola’s tenure delivered meaningful progress, the APC should present those accomplishments clearly to the electorate.
It stressed that residents of Osun State deserve to know what was achieved during his administration, rather than hearing repeated references to programmes initiated before he assumed office.
“It is both ironic and unacceptable that an administration which failed to continue several of the developmental projects it inherited is now turning around to campaign with those same initiatives,” the statement said.
The ADC warned against what it described as selective remembrance in governance, arguing that leadership should not be driven by political convenience.
It maintained that abandoning programmes while in office only to revive them during campaigns raises questions about sincerity and long-term commitment to development.
“The message is simple: showcase your record while in office, and let the people decide. Governance is not a stage for selective memory. You cannot discard policies when in office and suddenly rediscover them when elections approach. That is not leadership; that is convenience.
“We are asking a simple question: what exactly did the administration of Gboyega Oyetola do differently that improved the daily lives of ordinary citizens? Let those achievements be presented clearly and transparently.
“Osun people are politically aware and cannot be misled by recycled narratives. They understand the difference between continuity of governance and opportunistic appropriation of past initiatives.
“Handouts of ₦50,000 or any form of inducement cannot replace well-thought-out policies that address unemployment, infrastructure, and economic growth. The future of our state is far too important to be traded for temporary relief.
“Ultimately, leadership must be judged by results, not rhetoric. The people of Osun State deserve honest engagement, verifiable records, and a clear vision for sustainable development,” Osun ADC New Media team stated further.
