The Government of the State of Osun has advised the people of the state to be mindful of the drinks they consume. This is coming in the wake of the poisonous fruit juice confirmed to be responsible for the death of at least ten persons while 400 others are on the sickbed in Kano State.
Speaking through Dr. Siji Olamiju, Special Adviser to the State Governor on Public Health, residents of the state were admonished to always be vigilant and do away with poisonous drinks that could ruin their lives. He further warned that the poisonous drinks consumed in Kano might have also been brought to the state.
According to him, “with a large population of northerners resident in the state, there was a high possibility that the poisonous drink might be brought to the state but, the state officials in conjunction with NAFDAC staff in the state would inspect sale outlets to ensure that the said drink was not allowed in the state.
“NAFDAC has spoken about the incident and it has made us understand that the ‘unidentified’ product was illegally smuggled into the country and by analysis and investigation, it is a substandard product”.
