Osun APC Asks Police IG To Invite Sen Oyewumi Over Murder Of APC Member
- Alleges Sen Oyewumi’s Loyalists As Culprits
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on the Inspector-General of Police to invite Senator Lere Oyewumi for questioning over the murder of a chieftain of the party in Ikire, Mr Saheed Oyegunju.
The opposition party alleged that some political thugs working for Senator Oyewumi who represents Osun West and doubles as the Senate Deputy Minority Leader murdered Oyegunju.
A statement by the party chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, a copy obtained by Osun Defender on Friday, alleged that Oyegunju was waylaid by the PDP hoodlums on his way to the presidential campaign rally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Osogbo last year.
“Information has it that the lifeless body of Oyegunju was later found along Oosa Village, an outskirt of Ikire while the PDP political thugs who are loyalists of Senator Oyewumi led by one Sodiq Ayewo and Kokumo, as shown in a trending video where Oyegunju was rough handled on a motorcycle,” Lawal said.
Speaking further, Lawal said it would be necessary for the police to invite Senator Oyewumi to get to the root of the heinous crime.

“Though we are not saying it was the senator who was responsible for the killing but it is desirable for the police to invite him as the suspected killers are being fingered as his die-hard loyalists and political thugs,” Lawal clarified.
He added, “It is disheartening that one year after the murder of Oyegunju, his killers are still moving freely in Ikire boasting that they are above the law of the land.
“The only way that justice can be procured for the deceased is for the Inspector-General of Police to urgently swing into action by investigating and arraigning those who might be remotely or directly linked with the gruesome murder of one of the illustrious members of our party who was the Ward 9 treasurer in Ikire until his murder.
“It is also necessary and desirable for the police to invite Senator Oyewumi representing Osun West Senatorial District, as it is on record that he was on tape preaching and encouraging violence in one of his political meetings in Ikire where he was directing members of the PDP to kill, injure and maim members of our party during the last electioneering.
“As a political party, we are pleading with all the members and supporters of our party to continue to embrace peace as we have absolute confidence in the Inspector-General of Police that justice would be done on the issue of the needless murder of Oyegunju to serve as a deterrent to the promoters and leg men of anti-social activities in the nation’s political sphere.”
