The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the state police command to investigate an alleged assassination attempt raised by the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.

The demand was contained in a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, and obtained in Osogbo on Sunday.

The APC said its call followed claims made by Oba Oyetunji during the adoption of Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election by spare parts traders at Ajegunle, Osogbo, on Saturday, where the monarch alleged that he escaped an assassination attempt after hoodlums reportedly shot sporadically into his palace.

The party said: “There is a need for the urgent and thorough investigation of the allegation of the assassination attempt on the monarch by unknown hoodlums as alleged by the royal father as it was a grievous one which does not portray the image of the state well outside the state.”

It questioned why the alleged incident was not reported at the nearest police station and, if it was, why the police had not made any public statement on it.

“It should also be of interest to the right-thinking members of the public why the alleged assassination attempt on such a foremost Yoruba monarch should not have been incidented at the nearest police station and if it was reported to the police, why the police keep a sealed lip over the allegation of such magnitude?” the statement added.

The APC also called for clarity on alleged victims, saying, “It would also be of interest to the discerning members of the public to know the identity of some of the residents of the Ataoja Palace who were reportedly wounded during the said attack and the degrees of their various injuries sustained.”

It urged members of the public with useful information to assist the police investigation.

The party further stressed the need for a prompt inquiry, saying, “It is necessary for the police to expedite action on the investigation of this allegation in order to clear some knotty issues surrounding it.”

It added that a thorough investigation was necessary to clear any doubts about the party’s stance on violence, stating that its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), does not rely on violence or propaganda to win the forthcoming 15th August, 2026 governorship election.
