The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pharmacist Olasiji Olamiju has condemned the Tuesday attack by some yet to be identified gunmen in Onireke area of Esa-Oke, Obokun East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Osun.
The APC candidate popularly known as AKOL described the gunmen attack which claimed one life, a policeman injured and leaving several other persons missing as barbaric and wicked on the part of the gunmen.
According to a statement signed by the Esa-Oke born politician, Olamiju said it is unfortunate that a set of lazy youths could still opt for such barbaric act despite the numerous youth engagement programmes the state government has put in place.
He therefore called on law enforcement agencies especially the police to work assiduously to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to book as soon as possible.
The statement reads in parts, “I want to condemn the recent gunmen attack on the Esa-Oke community, to say I am shocked is an understatement. The APC government in Osun has done everything to ensure that this kind of situation does not arise, but it’s unfortunate that some youths still chose this path.
“As I urge the police and other law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to arrest the criminals, I appeal to my people to remain calm, vigilant and be security conscious about their property and possessions.
“I think it is time for us to take the simple security tips we know very serious, we need to start challenging strange faces in our environment, this is how it used to be done and it will go a long way in securing our community even in the absence of the police.
“It is expected that anyone who sees anything untoward or any strange movement by a stranger in the community, no matter how trivial to contact the nearest police station immediately.”
The pharmacist politician then condoled with the family of the deceased, the management of Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH) and Esa-Oke community as a whole, while praying for a speedy recovery of the injured and missing persons.
