THE Osun State House of Assembly has charged members of the fourth Estate of the Realm in the private sector in the state to be more mindful of their roles in dispute and conflict management.
The charge came on the heel of the private media’s actions on the ongoing Ifon/Ilobu land dispute which resulted into aborted communal clash.
A lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Oladimeji, had during the plenary on Tuesday, raised an issue under matters of urgent public importance, to complain about how private media stations, especially radios, mismanaged the land dispute between the two communities.
Oladimeji expressed dismay on what he described as insensitivity of the private media stations in disseminating information on the land dispute, in spite of the call for media to stare clear of discussions on the issue.
The lawmaker stated that not only should the erring media stations be reprimanded but also sanctioned for flouting the call of the assembly and triggering issues that remain sensitive.
In his response, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun who aligned himself with Oladimeji’s prayer, charged the House Committee on Media and Publicity and other relevant stakeholders in the case to meet and come up with urgent solutions.
