The State of Osun House of Assembly has assured of adequate legislations that would strengthen the Physical Planning, Urban Development and Building Control in the state.
Chairman, House Committee on land, physical planning and urban development, Hon. Nurein Adebisi gave the assurance on Thursday at an interactive meeting with the state branch of Bricklayers, Association of Nigeria at the House of Assembly Complex, Osogbo.
Hon. Adebisi stated that the meeting was called to put head together on building profession in other to lift the state to greater height.
He said the gathering was necessary to deliberate on the success of the environment and future of the state.
He described the association as important stakeholder in the building profession.
According to him, “this meeting becomes necessary so that they can also have their input in the process of consideration of the bill”.
The chairman who reacted to submission by individual members assured that the bill when finally passed into law would put an end not only to the lapses in the physical and urban development but would also sanitize the building profession.
However, in his remark, the president of Bricklayer Association in Osun, Chief Mathew Oladapo noted the unnecessary delay associated with approval of building plan, high rate of building permit as well as controversy that usually happen between officers of capital Territory and Town Planning Authorities.
He urged Government to reduce plan fees and to speed up work on plan process handling by the town planning departments.
In his contribution, Chairman Nigeria Institute of Architect in the state, Mr Goke Omigbodun urged different professional bodies to come up with what can help move the state forward in building.
Also, in his contributions, the commissioner for Land, and Physical Planning, Hon. Akinajo Kolawale urged every agency concern with building to bear its cross in other to handle whoever is responsible for lapses that emanates from poor structures.
In their separate remark, all the representatives of the professional body urged that there should be control for every building agency in the state.
They want the Government to listen to their opinions to move the state forward.
Meanwhile other members of the committee stressed the need for a law that would ensure effectiveness of town planning administration in the state.
It will be recalled that a bill for a law to provide for the administration of physical planning, urban development, urban regeneration and building control in the state and for the connected purposes was before the House for consideration.
The meeting was attended by every stakeholder in the building sector such as Nigeria Institute of Architect (NIA), Nigeria Institute of Builders (NIOB), Nigeria Society of Engineer (NSE), Nigeria Institute of Estate Surveyor and Values (NIESU), Bricklayer Association, Nigeria, Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and others.
