Osun Assembly Passes 2019 Budget, Increases It By N2bn

 

The State of Osun House of Assembly has passed the 2019 Budget into Law with an increment of over two billion naira making the new size of the budget to stand as #154, 406, 541, 400,00 naira only as against the figure of #152, 756, 088, 830. 00 only presented by the Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola , on Thursday, 27th December, 2018.

The increment, according to the Chairman, Finance and Appropriation Committee of the Assembly, Hon. Kamil Oyedele, while presenting his report was to take care of the critical sectors of the economy such as the welfare of the workers and pensioners as regards salaries and pensions, requirements of personnel for the health sector, capital projects such as roads and other infrastructures as well as agricultural development of the state

With this according to Hon. Oyedele, the budget is a balance Budget as Recurrent Revenue and Capital Receipts under Revenue Estimates takes 82.34% and 17.66% respectively of the budget size for the fiscal year.

Explaining further, Hon. Oyedele was of the opinion that the Governor has demonstrated his readiness to consolidate the gains of the past with the intention to liberate the people of the state from the bondage of poverty by allocating 61% of the total budget to the Capital Expenditure and 39% to the Recurrent Expenditure.

The motion for the passage of the budget into Law was then moved by Hon. Oyedele in line with Order 64 Rules 17 of the House as the Chairman, Finance and Appropriation Committee, which does not require to be seconded after the adoption of the report by the Parliament through a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Dejo Bello and was seconded by Hon. Abdulahi Ibrahim (Iwo).

In their various contributions, all Hon. Members who commented on the report commended the Chairman and members, Finance and Appropriation Committee for the job well done with a call on the Speaker and the House to give the report an accelerated adoption.

Commenting, the Presiding Officer, Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Salaam, also appreciated the contents of the report, the Committee and the whole House for the dedication, commitment and sacrifice towards the passage of the budget into law saying the current 6th Assembly has set a standard and template of modus operandi for the incoming one.

Dr. Najeem who directed the Clerk of the House to officially communicate all the findings and recommendations of the House as contained in the report to the Governor to serve as a Policy Thrust for the government to follow religiously while executing and implementing the budget.

Hon. Salaam, therefore, called on the Governor to timely assent his signature for the citizenry of the state to enjoy the dividends of democracy incorporated in the budget.
