The State of Osun House of Assembly has stressed the needs for proper monitoring of officials at the Local Government level so as to ensure that their performance complement the efforts of the state government.
Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon Kamil Oyedele disclosed this at the ongoing budget defence exercise at the State House of Assembly complex Osogbo.
Oyedele commended the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on the successful conduct of the Local Government election in the state.
He urged the Ministry officials to ensure that council authorities meet the expectation in the area of revenue generation.
According to him, “Local Government is very crucial to everyone in the state and there should be judicious use of revenue of local government”.
In their separate remarks, other members of the committee observed the need for the ministry to engage in capacity building for local government staffers so as to enhance their performance.
The ministry was charged to ensure that the authorities of local governments pay attention to proper maintenance of all the 10 kilometre roads in their jurisdiction.
The lawmakers also directed relevant agencies and ministries of government that have not submitted their revenue work plan to do so without further delay.
In another development, the lawmakers took note of the activities of the officials of the state judiciary in the previous year and commended the officials for what they described as noticeable improvement in dispensation of justice.
Meanwhile, some of the agencies of government, ministries that have appeared before the House of Assembly includes Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs which defended the sum of N83,314,370 allotted to it, Local Government Service Commission N166,208,720 and High Court of Justice N1,313,142,670.
Others are judiciary service Commission N357,110,200 and Customary Court of Appeal N818,590,720 also defended their budget estimate.
