The Osun State Government has initiated a meeting with monarchs of boundary communities in the state to address rising security concerns in their areas.

Residents of border communities have been restless following recent reports of violent crimes, including kidnappings and attacks on villagers in neighboring communities in Ondo State.

Many are worried that the insecurity in Ondo may spill over into Osun through the shared forests between the two states.

Residents of Owena-Ijesa, located at the last Osun community on the Osun/Ondo boundary along the Ilesa/Akure Expressway, expressed their fears on Sunday.

They called for an increased security presence, especially in villages located far from major roads.

They warned that unless the government took proactive steps, the insecurity in Ondo’s villages could easily spread to Osun.

Responding to the residents’ concerns, Osun’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Samuel Ojo, revealed that the state government had convened a security meeting focused on border towns, scheduled for Thursday.

“The meeting will include all the Service Commanders, representatives of the monarchs (Kabiyesi) of the border towns, Area Commanders, DPOs, DSS, NSCDC, Amotekun, Vigilante groups, Hunters, and other security agencies operating in the border towns,” Ojo said.
