In a bid to curb fire outbreaks, Osun Federal Fire Service Department has gone round to markets to mark this year fire safety week on how to take precautionary measures to avert such incidents as the harmattan and festive season approaches.
Earlier before the sensitization tour to the markets which was led by the Federal Fire service spokesperson, ASFI Omileke Lilian had sensitized the Olokinni of Okinni Palace and tutored on basic precautionary measures to be put in place so as to avert fire outbreaks.
The Fire Department at the Palace also displayed practicals on fire prevention and elementary fire fighting.
Lilian said that the tips to the market men and women were imperative to prevent fire disasters and to imbibe safety consciousness during the dry season in markets and other places of public interest.
She further said that indiscriminate bush and open burning of waste could also cause a fire outbreak if care was not taken.
She said, “We are here to converse for the economic development of the State, we don’t want incessant fire outbreaks in our markets and we know that all these incessant fire outbreaks are as a result of our peoples negligence and carelessness.
“Our people should be careful in handling fire because any mishandling can lead to disaster, all electrical appliances should be put off before locking up for the day.”
The spokeperson further called for cooperation among the market operators and fire service department so that markets would be safe as well as to achieve a zero fire outbreak incident in Osun State.
The Olokinni of Okinni His Royal Majesty, Abdulkadreel okonola olawale gbodekiji 11, appreciated the Fire Department for bringing such sensitization to the palace and to the Okinni community.
He then advised the general public to take precautionary measures to prevent fire outbreak during the harmattan season.
