In a bid to ensure the free flow of traffic on roads, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Osun command has begun operation “stop obstructing the road” in the state.
This is just as the Corps urged market men and women to desist from displaying wares on roads to avert road obstruction, especially on market days.
The Sector Commander, FRSC, Paul John Okpe who stated this in a meeting organised for operation officers, said the Command is working with the State Government to ensure sanity around the markets.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Command, Agnes Ogungbemi said the Sector Commander specifically mentioned Owode market, Otaefun, Igbono among others where the activities of market men and women including Korope drivers affect the free flow of traffic.
Okpe said the interface with the state Government led to the recent removal of the mini-market at Dele Yes Sir roundabout located in the state capital.
He hinted that the inauguration of the Osun Road Safety Advisory Council (SaRSAC) will lead to making the roads safer as the Council is considering removing the vegetation along the highways as it aids criminality and does not give a clear view of potholes among others.
“Enforcement and traffic control will be intensified along with public enlightenment and advocacy through the media, motor parks, traditional leaders, Iyalojas and most importantly deployment of regular and special marshals around markets in the state”.
The Sector Commander appealed to market men and women to refrain from displaying wares on roadsides as it leads to road obstruction, especially on market days.
While calling on collective effort to check the menace, Okpe said that the Command will do everything possible to achieve the objective.
