Osun Govt Appoints New Akire of Ikire
The Osun state government has approved the appointment of Prince Tajudeen Olanrewaju as the new Akire of Ikire.
His appointment followed the demise of Oba Olatunde Falabi, Lambeloye III on 27th February, 2026.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the decision was made at the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday at Osogbo.
It added that the meeting which was presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke, deliberated on the detailed memo submitted by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and approved the recommendations in line with extant laws and terms of settlement agreed to by the five Ruling Houses.
It would be recalled that the Akire stool generated a crisis in the year 2021 over the Supreme Court Judgment of 2014 which affirmed that the Lambeloye Ruling House that produced Oba Olatunde Falabi had no legal right to occupy the stool of Akire of Ikire as at the time it did when a vacancy occurred in 1987.
The aftermath of the crisis made the Osun State Government in collaboration with all five (5) Ruling Houses of Ikire to resolve and jointly agree on the amendment of the 1958 Akire Chieftaincy Declaration which paved way for Aketula Ruling House to be the next Ruling House whenever a vacancy occurred.
