The State Government of Osun has begun construction of the collapsed Sagan Bridge in Ejigbo, Ejigbo Local Government of the state.
The bridge, which links Court Area to Odebara Agoji, according to residents, had cut off the two communities from each other in the last 10 months.
OSUN DEFENEDER had reported the plea of residents of the community to the state government to fix the collapsed bridge some two weeks ago.
It was gathered that the state government began the construction of the bridge early this month, a development described as an end to the hardship being faced by commuters and residents of the area.
Commending the government, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the town, Engr. Taiwo Ibraheem, lauded Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his quick response to the plea for the reconstruction of the bridge, saying that it is a relief for commuters and other users.
Ibraheem said: “The reconstruction of the bridge is laudable. Governor Oyetola deserves to be commended for prioritizing the welfare of the people of Ejigbo. We have heard about bridges other towns being abandoned for more than three years in the past, but it is different in our case.”
The politician said reconstructing the collapsed bridge has increased the confidence Ejigbo people have in Governor Oyetola-led administration, saying he had demonstrated a genuine responsive leadership.
He urged the government to monitor the project closely in order to expedite completion of the bridge.
Also, an aged landlord in the area, Mr. Kehinde Sabitu expressed his delight over the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge, saying it would avert flood disasters.
“With the ongoing fixing of the bridge, we can now sleep with our two eyes closed, irrespective of the level of downpour during this rainy season”, he said.
