The Government of Osun harped on the illegal medical practitioners in the state, saying the state is fully ready to deal with whoever that is found guilty of operating illegal medical centres.
The state disclosed its readiness to commence the implementation and enforcement of an Executive Order to wipe-out illegal medical practice across the nooks and crannies of the state.
The Governor of the State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the disclosure at a gathering recently in Osogbo.
Aregbesola said the Executive Order became necessary in a bid to curb any form of misconduct and illegality in the health sector while the state await the promulgation of the law that will standardize medical practice in Osun by the legislature.
He revealed that the Executive Order will serve as a measure to criminalize the operation and running of any sub-standard clinic, hospital and health centre in the state.
Aregbesola expressed dismay over what he regarded as unchecked illegal practices among the healthcare givers, saying nobody would be allowed to run unauthorized and illegal medical facility in the state henceforth.
According to him, “While waiting for the promulgation of the law that will standardize medical facilities operation in Osun, we are announcing that an Executive Order will take effect from Monday that will prohibit any illegality in the health sector.
”By the grace of God an Executive Order will come out on Monday making it illegal for anybody to operate a substandard clinic, health center, hospital and specialist medical center anywhere in the state of Osun”, he added.
Speaking on the topic of the lecture: “Misdiagnosis and Legal Implications in an Evolving Environment”, Aregbesola charged health practitioners to champion the Omoluabi ethos in all they do, saying it is time for all to internalize good character to engender all round growth and development.
He attributed the cause of misdiagnosis to lack of required medical knowledge and Omoluabi ethics in the medical profession, imploring the professionals in the sector to imbibe the spirit of Omoluabi that symbolises all that is good in life.
”In medical practice, Omoluabi ethos is essential, to me that’s the summary of this lecture. You must be an Omoluabi even in medicine. As it is in medicine, so it is in Law, in engineering and accounting and so it is in every profession.
“When you break it down, “Character” is the soul and heart of every profession, once you apply character, dignity, honour and decency to all you do you can never go wrong.
“The summary of everything here is that we must remember that we are in the state of the virtue, once you internalize that, you can hardly be wrong”.
