“Osun Govt Committed To Sports, Youth Development”

The Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Osun State, Hon. Sunday Bisi, has disclosed that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is focused on youth and sports development.

Bisi said the Adeleke administration has put in place mechanisms for young people to make good use of and realise their potential.

He noted that the administration is developing the sports sector to compete globally.

The PDP Chair gave the assurance during the kick-off of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Cup in
Ijebu-Ijesa.

“The administration of Governor Adeleke has been noted for its focus on youth and sports development.

“The governor will always take the matter of youths seriously and he is committed to the development of sports and making sure our youths can compete globally and the tournament aligns perfectly with those priorities,” he added.

Speaking on the tournament organised by an Abuja-based lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Bisi sought contributions from stakeholders to support the government’s youth empowerment and community development drive.

He said the initiative is a wonderful approach to promoting unity, togetherness, and love among youths.

Bisi expressed hope that the tournament would become a cornerstone for discovering and developing future sports personalities from Osun State.

Earlier in his address, Olajengbesi noted that the initiative is aimed at creating an avenue for young people to display their God-giving sports talents.

He further stated that through the tournament, youths can be inspired to strive for excellence both on and off the field.

Olajengbesi, who disclosed that there is more to be done in making football a major thing in the state, added that the organization of the tournament is one of the major steps taken in repositioning football in the state.

Over twenty-two (22) teams will jostle for the trophy across wards in the entire Ijesa North Federal Constituency.

The winner of the tournament would win a cash prize of two million naira (N2 million), the runner-up would win a cash prize of one million naira (N1 million), and the third position would win a cash prize of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000).

The Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, Oba Moses Olufemi Agunsoye, and the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, in their separate remarks, lauded the sponsor for uniting the youths of the federal constituency with the football tournament.

They noted that sports have a unique ability to bring people together, transcending social and economic barriers.
