Osun Govt To Develop More Initiatives For Osun Education Development

Managements of the State of Osun Ministry of Education and the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) have reiterated the commitment of Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration to continue to develop strategies, including the review of curriculum, towards improving on the education system in the state.

Commissioner for Education, Mr Kola Omotunde-Young and the Chairman, Osun SUBEB, Prince Felix Awofisayo gave the commitment at a joint meeting with officials of SUBEB in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The duo said that though, the government had invested huge resources on the education sector, but it would continue to come up with new ideas to offer the best and build students that are empowered to compete with their peers anywhere in the world.

He said, though it has become difficult for critics to fairly fault the investment of the government on the education system, this has placed a huge challenge on the government on how to improve on the existing standard.

According to him, the government is working seriously toward taking education beyond knowledge transfer, to character-building, critical and creative thinking, productivity and problem-solving.

“What this government is working on is to take it from teaching the child what to know, to helping the child to know how to think”, he said.

Omotunde-Young insisted that that government would look into everything that needed to be look into including curriculum for the development of the education sector.

Awofisayo on his own said the administration of Aregbesola has shown commitment to the development of education, particularly at the basic level.

According to him, the commitment of the government towards prompt payment of its counterpart fund towards FGN/UBEC/SUBEB projects has assisted the board to record huge success in the education sector.

Also speaking, the SUBEB Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole said the Ministry of Education should look at the direction of putting in place curriculum that would consolidate the investment of the government in the education system.
