Osun Govt. Emphasises Transparency and Accountability

The Local Government Service Commission will leave no stone unturned towards ensuring that, necessary precautions are put in place to forestall any act of misappropriation of fund at the grassroot
level.

The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Elder Peter Babalola made this known while declaring open A-3 day workshop on ‘’Preparation and Scrutiny of Bank Reconciliation Statements for
Monitoring and Exercising Control on Bank Transactions’’, held at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Commission.

Elder Babalola who emphasized that, the present administration is committed to transparency, accountability and probity noted that, the workshop is aimed at achieving maximum quality, efficiency and effectiveness of Finance Officers so as to achieve the set target of the government.

The Local Government Service Commission boss, further stated that, the training programme is meant to bridge the often reported gap between the performance of Officers in-charge of Finance in the Local
Government and Auditors on the issue of Bank Reconciliation Statement which has been neglected to the detriment of financial management in the operations and activities of the councils in the state.

In his address of welcome, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Dayo Olaluwoye said the workshop is organized to bridge the gap between audit expectations and the actual
performances of most of the operators which are the Finance Officers.

Mr. Olaluwoye then commended the State Government for creating an enabling environment for the Commission to organize the workshop in spite of many competing demands.

While giving the preview of the workshop, the Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Kolapo maintained that, the training programme will be purely practical in order to improve the
performance of Finance Officers at the Local Government Council.
