1: Osun Govt Warns Against Illegal Acquisition Of Properties
The Osun State Government has warned those engaging in illegal acquisition of its properties of dire consequences if they failed to disclose and hand over such assets.
The Special Adviser on Assets Management to the governor, Hon Fausat Sarumi-Adebanjo, gave the warning in Osogbo while speaking with newsmen, on Wednesday.
Sarumi-Adebanjo said it is appalling and reprehensible for people to build on lands that the government had acquired for developmental purposes, saying such lands, whether already used or about to be used, will be recovered without delay.
She expressed displeasure that such erring trespassers had encroached on government land across the state.
2: Unregistered Tricycle Owners Will Be Treated As Criminals – Osun Govt.
Commercial tricycle operators working in Osun state has been ordered to ensure that they have valid documents to back their operations or face sanctions.
The state government gave the order, adding that the warning was a sequel to the report linking some tricycle operators to criminal activities in the state.
The government made this known in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Yakubu Adejare on Wednesday.
The statement said henceforth, unregistered tricycles would no longer be allowed to operate in the state, stressing that anyone caught using a tricycle with no proper documents would be held for committing traffic offences.
The government in the statement, urged the tricycle operators to ensure they get documents such as hackney permits, roadworthiness, as well as, vehicle licences before they start operating in the state.
3: OHIA Laments Low Enrolment From Informal Sector
The Osun Health Insurance Agency (OHIA) has lamented that there is low enrolment of the informal sector in the scheme.
Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Razak Akindele, who stated this during a media parley in Osogbo on Monday, said the level of acceptance of the scheme by the informal sector was not encouraging.
He, however, promised that the scheme will increase its awareness particularly at the grassroots for people to understand the benefits of keying into the programme.
Akindele also called on politicians to key into the programme by providing health insurance for their constituents.
4: Four Suspected Motorcycle Snatchers Remanded In Prison
An Osun State Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, has ordered the remand of four persons suspected to be motorcycle snatchers in the Nigerian Correctional Centre.
The defendants, Bello Abubakar(30), Mustapha Yinusa(21), Usman Abubakar Faruq(31) and Adefisoye Temitayo(36), were accused of robbing seven different people of their Bajaj motorcycles.
According to the charge sheet obtained by OSUN DEFENDER on Thursday, the offense was committed between the months of June and September 2023, at Osogbo area in Osun State.
The alleged offense, according to the police, is punishable under Section 403A and 402 of the Criminal code, Cap 34, Vol.II, Law of Osun State, 2002.
However, the defendants all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
