Governor Ademola Adeleke in a bid to ensure that courts reopen in Osun State, has set up a dispute resolution committee to settle the dispute within the judicial arm of government.
Osun Defender reports that members of the Judicial Staff Union in the state have been on strike since last year November over disputes between the workers and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo.
Adeleke in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday, said the seven-man committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, is to urgently resolve the dispute within seven days.
Also, the Governor, in a bid to show his neutrality, has written the National Judicial Council on his effort to end the crisis in the sector and ensure that the Judiciary in the state is up and running, seeking the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Attorney-General of the federation support.
According to the statement, the new intervention Adeleke, followed his previous efforts which included payment of withheld salaries of some judicial staff, negotiation on wardrobe allowances and recent hosting of the national leadership of the judicial staff union.
The statement further reads, “We are being careful all along not to be accused of meddling in judicial matters. But it is now almost an emergency. We must get the issues ironed out.
“I told the national leadership of JUSUN to mediate. I am also reaching out to the Attorney General and the Chief Justice. We need to get our courts running for regular dispensation of justice.”
