Osun LG Chair Appears Before Osun Assembly Over Alleged Misappropriation Of N270m

The Chairman, Orolu Local Government Area of Osun state, Mr. Adekunle Benson has been dragged before the State House of Assembly over allegation of misappropriation of the sum of N270million allocation for his council.

No fewer than three petitions had been written against Benson for misappropriation of public funds before the House Committee on Public Account summoned him to explain how he spent the allocation.

Benson, alongside Chairman of Olorunda North LCDA, Mr. Quadri Owonikoko and Executive Secretary, Orolu South Area council, Mr. Fatai Jamiu appeared before the House Committee to give their stewardship account in the last six month.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Account, Mr. Rasheed Afolabi, during the appearance of executives said the Assembly would not condone any act by Executives of Local government to misappropriate public funds.

Mr. Afolabi noted that the essence of establishing the local government was to make the people at the grassroots feel the presence of government.

He said making the people enjoy basic amenities at the grassroots would fast track development in the state.

The Lawmaker representing  Ede North State Constituency, Mr. Debo Akanbi while questioning the Chairman, Orolu Local government, Mr. Adekunle Benson on how he expended the 270 million naira allocated to his council said every allocation given to the council must be accounted for.

Mr. Akanbi said the Orolu local government chairman should be made to give detailed account as the House would not accept corrupt practices that would render efforts of the government towards developing the state useless.

Responding, Benson explained that he was working on 16 boreholes and roofing of the Orolu town hall, which had been under construction for the past 35 year, as projects embarked upon by the council.

Mr. Benson said he also worked on grading of roads in the council as well as construction of river bridges linking some areas in the local government.

Meanwhile, Owonikoko and Jamiu said they have performed very well having embarked on projects that enhanced the living standard of their people.

Some of the Lawmakers in their separate remarks, said the performance of the two council executives have justified the decision of the state government to create more local governments.

They also called for a cordial working relationship among the parliamentarians and career officers at the council.
