Osun LG Crisis: Newly Elected PDP Chairmen, NULGE Drag Reinstated Yes/ No Chairmen To Courts

The newly elected local government chairmen and councillors under the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have dragged the reinstated APC chairmen to court for illegally occupying the secretariats.

The PDP chairmen in a suit filed before a state High Court sitting in Ikirun, asked the court to order the APC chairmen to vacate the local government secretariats.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that there has been a political battle between the two political parties on the control of the local governments in the state.

While the reinstated APC chairmen presently occupy the secretariats, the newly elected PDP Chairmen who were working from home as directed by Governor Ademola Adeleke are laying claim to being the authentic council chairmen.

Also, local government workers have been asked to stay off work by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State Chapter pending when peace will return to the councils.

The Commissioner of Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, in a statement on Wednesday, said the elected PDP chairmen and councillors have approached the court of law so as to get the Yes/No Chairmen ejected from the various Council secretariats.

Joined in the suit are the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, the Director-General, DSS, and the Commandant General, NSCDC.

The statement noted that the matter has been adjourned to the 15th of April, 2025 for further hearing, while the court has granted the prayer for substituted service.

In the same vein, the Osun State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has equally instituted a lawsuit in the Ilesa Division of Osun State High Court of Justice over the forceful invasion and illegal occupation of the local government secretariats by the Yes/No local government chairmen and councillors of the Oyetola-led administration in Osun State.

The ground of the suit is premised on the need to get the Yes/No Chairmen and Councilors ejected, as their forceful occupation, among other factors, constitutes a threat to the entire local government workforce under the umbrella of NULGE in all the council secretariats in the state at the moment.

The matter has equally been adjourned to the 17th of April, 2025, for hearing, with substituted service also granted accordingly.
