Following the ongoing political crisis over local government administration in Osun State, reports have emerged of a violent shootout allegedly involving former Commissioner for Works and an appointee of President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Oluremi Omowaiye.
The development has led to accusations and counter-accusations between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating attacks on each other
In a statement on Monday, the Ilesa West PDP accused Omowaiye and the APC chairmanship candidate for Ilesa West, Mr. Tobi Famurewa, of orchestrating an attack on its members during a peaceful political gathering at the Ilesa West Secretariat, Omialadiye, along Osogbo Road, Ilesa.

The party claimed that at approximately 2:00 PM, armed thugs allegedly led by Omowaiye and Famurawa stormed the venue, firing gunshots that left several PDP members injured.
Among those reportedly wounded were PDP chieftains Hon. Tunde Ẹjẹ, Hon. Kasali, and a young woman selling bread nearby.

The PDP further alleged that some of the attackers were disguised as security personnel, wearing police and DSS uniforms, raising concerns about the involvement of security agencies in the violence.
In a strongly worded statement, the PDP Osun media wing declared, “This act of political terrorism is not an isolated one—it is a continuation of the APC’s well-documented pattern of violence in Osun State. These thugs were sent by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who remains desperate to destabilize the peace and democracy in Osun. Omowaiye and Famurawa are merely his foot soldiers executing his anti-democratic agenda.”

The party demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Omowaiye and Famurewa for attempted murder, terrorism, and unlawful possession of firearms.
It also called on the Inspector General of Police, the DSS, and other relevant security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of security operatives in the attack.
However, the APC has countered the PDP’s claims, alleging that Omowaiye himself was a target of an assassination attempt.
Viral videos circulating online show Omowaiye’s convoy under heavy gunfire, with bullet holes riddling the coastal bus that conveyed him.
They insisted that Omowaiye was a victim of a premeditated attack by armed assailants loyal to the PDP.
Meanwhile, calls have intensified for President Tinubu and law enforcement agencies to intervene and restore peace before the crisis escalates further.
