Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has revealed that the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo remains locked, 144 hours after the local government elections.

Speaking on Rave FM’s Frank Talk programme on Friday, Abioye expressed concern that despite the conclusion of the February 22 elections and the announcement of winners, police officers continue to prevent OSSIEC staff from accessing their offices for post-election documentation.

“Our office still remains under lock and key, they (police) are not allowing us to access our office because there are post election activities we still need to do.”

He also confirmed that OSSIEC staff arrested on election day had been released but maintained that the commission would pursue legal action against the police.

“For the case of our staff arrested, they have been released but that will not stop us from pressing the case against the police.”

Abioye further disclosed that the commission had filed a suit against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Osun Commissioner of Police, Abba Muhammad, over alleged breaches of fundamental rights.

OSUN DEFENDER recalls that candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all chairmanship and councillorship seats across Osun’s 30 local government areas.

They were all sworn into office on Sunday by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who also warned them to stay away from the council secretariats for the meantime.
