Osun LG Polls A “Shameless Charade, Desperation To Divert Council Funds” – Omisore
Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has berated Governor Ademola Adeleke Governor Ademola Adeleke for conducting what he described as an illegal chairmanship and councillorship election across 30 local governments.
In a statement, Omisore condemned the Osun State Government and its electoral commission, accusing them of defying court rulings and staging an imaginary poll to fill non-existent vacancies in the councils. He described the move as lawless, insisting that the government ignored sound legal counsel in its bid to violate a clear Court of Appeal judgment.
“The judgment of the Court of Appeal reinstated the 30 council chairmen and their councillors. Yet, the governor is bent on conducting an election that is both illegal and baseless,” Omisore asserted.
He further alleged that Adeleke’s insistence on holding the election was driven by an inordinate ambition to misuse local government funds, warning that such actions could plunge the state into crisis.
“The desperation to divert council funds appears to be the real motivation behind this false election, which will not stand the test of law or time,” Omisore added.
Describing the election as a “shameless charade” orchestrated by the state electoral commission at the behest of its paymaster, Omisore accused the governor of committing a “heinous crime against democracy and humanity.”
“Disobeying court orders, wasting Osun’s resources, and desperately trying to influence the judiciary against superior court decisions—Adeleke has set the stage for a breakdown of law and order. If Osun descends into chaos, he should be held responsible,” Omisore warned.
He also suggested that Adeleke’s actions could invite the declaration of a state of emergency in Osun, concluding that the entire process was “dancing taken too far.”
