The Osun State local government election held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, has drawn attention, with some stakeholders raising questions about its credibility.

It will be recalled that some political parties had dismissed the process, citing its legality, transparency and fairness.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the controversial election took place across some local governments, following prolonged disputes between the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which ultimately boycotted the poll.

However, reports suggest that the election may not be free from irregularities as videos circulating on social media allegedly shared by the PDP appear to show ballot papers that had already been thumbprinted before voting commenced.

Particularly concerning is a video that captured the conduct of the election at Ejigbo Ward A2 in Ila-Orangun and analysed by OSUN DEFENDER .

The footage showed that ballot papers issued to voters after accreditation had already been thumbprinted before the election.

Additionally, there was no visible stamp ink or voting cubicle at the polling unit to allow voters to independently select their preferred candidates. Instead, voters were seen simply collecting the ballot papers and dropping them into the provided boxes.

It was also observed that officials of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) were present at the polling unit, overseeing the process.

Meanwhile, the OSSIEC had announced all PDP candidates winner as the election concluded yesterday evening. .

As the situation unfolds, residents speculate that the election may become a subject of litigation, as some political parties maintain allegedly denied an equal opportunity to participate.
