The Ijesa North Traditional Council has suspended the Aketewi of Iketewi in Obokun Local Government Area of the State of Osun, Oba Olusiji Ogungbemi with immediate effect.
Rising from an emergency meeting on Sunday, the Chairman of the council, Oba Moses Agunsoye, the Elegboro of Ijebu Ijesa and the Co-Secretaries, Oba Edward Adetimo, Olomu of Ijaregbe and Oba Julius Fatammi, Olura of Ira said Oba Ogungbemi remains suspended pending the decision of the court on the alleged rape case involving the embattled traditional ruler.
The Ijesa North Traditional Council in the statement stated that it was an error in the media to have mentioned Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, the Owalare of Ilare as the alleged perpetrator of the act the Aketewi and his son allegedly perpetrated which is currently before the court.
The statement said, “The Council will like to inform the public that it was an error and misinformation for some media to have mentioned Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, The Owalare of Ilare as the culprit in the case. Oba Owalare of Ilare was never involved.”
“The picture in the social media that showed Alahun of Ilahun as the offender mentioned above is not correct. The offender has been no other person than the Aketewi of Iketewi and not the Alahun of Ilahun nor Owalare of Ilare.”
It would be recalled that Oba Ogungbemi and his son, Idowu, were arrested by the Osun police command for the alleged rape of a 14-year old girl living with one Esther Ogungbemi, who was her father’s sister in Ilare town of the state of Osun.
Oba Ogungbemi and his son have since been apprehended by the police.
