Osun Monarch Writes Police Over Alleged Fake News

The Olokeolooru Obalufon of okeolooru Obalufon land in Boluwaduro Local Government area of Osun State, Oba Mukaila Micheal Adebisi has called on the Osun State Commissioner of Police to investigate and prosecute a social media influencer for spreading false information about him.

The monarch lamented that the social media influencer published a fake news that Governor Ademola Adeleke removed him as the Olokeolooru Obalufon of okeolooru Obalufon, saying that the Governor did not remove him as claimed.

In his petition to the Commissioner of Police, through his lawyer, Victor Akinola, Wednesday, 25th of February, Oba Adebisi said no official letter from the state government to sack him as a traditional ruler of Okeolooru obalufon town.

Oba Adebisi said the petition became necessary in view of the escalating activities of certain individuals and coordinated bloggers who, despite a matter being duly submitted to a competent Court of law, have continued to disseminate provocative, misleading, and inciting publications capable of causing unrest, destabilizing public peace, and obstructing the administration of justice.

According to the petition, “sometime recently, a dispute arose concerning the alleged demotion of the royal title of our Client. The issues surrounding the said action immediately generated tensions within the community and attracted public attention.

“Being a law abiding citizen and a traditional ruler who respects constituted authority, our Client resisted all pressures to respond through public confrontation or media warfare. Instead, he elected to exercise his constitutional right by submitting the matter before a Court of competent jurisdiction for proper judicial determination.

“A suit has now been duly filed before the Honourable Court challenging the legality, propriety, and validity of the purported demotion.

“The issues raised before the Court are strictly legal in nature and require judicial interpretation and pronouncement. The matter is therefore sub judice. We wish to categorically and unequivocally notify your office that since the filing of the suit, our Client has completely ceased discussing, commenting or publishing on it.

“It is therefore important for the Police to note that any publication currently circulating in the media space does not emanate from our Client, his palace, or his authorized representatives.

“We further notify your office that upon the matter being placed before the Honourable Court, the Court deemed it necessary in the interest of justice and public order to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case.

“Our Client remains entitled to continue performing his royal functions and duties pending the final determination of the suit. The Court’s directive is intended to prevent disorder, avoid vacuum in traditional authority, and preserve peace in the community while the Court examines the legality of the dispute.

“Any attempt by any individual, group, or organization to undermine, ridicule, obstruct, or incite the public against our Client’s performance of his duties is therefore an indirect violation of the judicial process and capable of causing a breakdown of law and order.

“Regrettably, despite the pending court action, certain persons have continued to weaponize social media platforms and online blogs as instruments of agitation and confusion. More worrisome is the fact that these publications are strategically timed to coincide with community gatherings and traditional events, thereby creating tension capable of resulting in confrontation or communal disturbance.

“The publications are not merely opinions, they are calculated attempts to preempt the Court and manipulate public perception against a pending judicial process.”

Oba Adebisi urge the Commissioner of Police to intervene promptly, investigate the actors involved, and take appropriate lawful action to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
