Osun Muslims To Mark Islamic New Year 1447AH With Prayers
Muslims in Osun State will herald the New Islamic Year Hijrah 1447 A.H. with prayers for the peaceful conduct of the 2026 governorship election.
They will also offer supplications for the continuous peace and harmony of the state, as well as an end to the insecurity ravaging the country.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, President of Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi called on political gladiators in the state to eschew violence and prioritise the development of Osun in their aspiration.
Olawuyi said, “We urge politicians to play according to the rules. As religious leaders, our aim is to continuously pray for the peace and prosperity of our dear state and country. We will use the new Islamic calendar to pray for the peace of our beloved country as we approach the 2027 electioneering season, too.”
The President of the Osun State Muslim Community noted that the theme of the new Islamic calendar programme is: ‘Shari’a and the Nigerian Secular Legal Framework: Conflict or Coexistence in the South,’ with the lecture taking place during the grand finale on Saturday.
He added that some of the programmes of the 1447 Hijrah celebration includes, “a colloquium titled: Establishment Of Shari’a Courts In South West Of Nigeria: Right Or Privilege. Osun Sha’ria Panelist, Dr. Bilal Asrau, the Chairman Shari’a Panel, Ekiti State, Alhaji Sulaymon Ganiyu, and the Chief Imam of Oyan, Dr. Yunus Raji Akomolafe, will be the discussants while Dr. Abdullateef Aniyan will moderate the Colloquium.
“Quran recitation competition, which involves the best memorisers of the Holy Quran, will come up on Wednesday, June 26, while the Community will hold a special Jumu’ah service on Friday, 27th June, at Osogbo Central Mosque, Oja-Oba.
“The grand finale of the Hijra activities will come up on Saturday, June 28, at the Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo. Those expected at the grand finale include the governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, the Chief of Staff to the governor, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, and a host of others,” Olawuyi noted.
