The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun State Command on Friday in Osogbo, inaugurated Special Female Squad to protect school children across the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, NSCDC Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, disclosed that the initiative is a proactive measure toward guaranteeing safety and restoring the confidence of Students, Parents, Teachers and the Community in the Country’s Security Architecture.
Audi who was represented by Assistant Commandant General, Zone J command, Adeyinka Fasiu said NSCDC would continue to take proactive measures in collaboration with Sister agencies to guarantee Security for the socio-economic development of the Country.
He said, “Special Female Squad is a child of necessity borne out of the need to effectively curtail the recent upsurge of insecurity occasioned by armed banditry, kidnapping, insurgency and the need to effectively implement Government’s proposed Safe School Initiative.
“The establishment of the Special Female Squad is a proactive measure toward guaranteeing safety and restoring the confidence of Students, Parents, Teachers and the Community in the Country’s Security Architecture.
“You will agree with me, that our country is currently facing unprecedented security challenges and unique problems that demand unique solutions. These, alongside others, are the reasons for the establishment of the Special Female Squad which is being commissioned today”.
In her address, wife of the state governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola, said the Special Female Squad would be quite significant at deterring attacks on schools by armed terrorists.
She added that the squad will also help to arrest the frightening wave of drugs and substance use and abuse in the schools.
“I commend the present leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps for the innovation of Special Female Squad being established across the country. The Special Female Squad would be quite significant in helping to arrest the frightening wave of drugs and substance use and abuse in our schools.
“This is in addition to the set goal at deterring attacks on our schools by armed terrorists. I am happy that our own special female squad is being unveiled today”.
