Osun NUP Urges Members To Stay Safe, Wants Govt To Pay Entitlements
By Solomon Odeniyi
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners in the State of Osun has called on its members to stay safe and ensure they adhere strictly to the guidelines rolled out by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the state government on the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic.
The group said it was necessary for members to abide by the guidelines, as many of them are susceptible to contract the deadly virus due to their old age.
In statement jointly signed by the Osun Chairman and Secretary, of the NUP, Alhaji Ganiyu Salawu and Comrade Lawrence Aina, the union also appealed to the Governor of the state, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, to pay the pensioners’ entitlements, saying that some of them were dying in silence.
A copy of the press statement made available to OSUN DEFENDER in Osogbo, yesterday reads: “We call on the Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led administration in the state not to take the pensioners’ entitlements with levity. The ugly situation some pensioners are passing through is pathetic. They are finding it difficult to attend to some domestic issues when they don’t have money.
“We are using this medium to appeal to Governor Oyetola to pay pensioners’ entitlements which they have worked for, as these set of people are dying in silence.
“Governor Oyetola is the people’s governor who has always been working for the betterment of the people, we want him to extend his hand of fellowship to us too before it is too late.
“Up till now, we pensioners have not been benefiting from the state government’s palliative since commencement of the COVID-19 pandemic
“Even though we have seen laudable interventions by the state government to cushion the negative economic impact of the pandemic, but however, members of the NUP across the state should be carried along by Governor Oyetola.”
