The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, said on Thursday that it had deployed 2,000 personnel to strategic places as part of security measures for the celebration of the Osun-Osogbo festival.
Mr Philip Ayodele, the State Commandant of the corps, who gave the figure said in a statement in Osogbo, assured residents and visitors coming to Osun for the festival of adequate security before, during and after the celebration.
The Osun-Osogbo festival is a UNESCO certified festival that attracts thousands of tourists from within and outside the country.
The grand finale of this year’s festival, which started two weeks ago, comes up on Friday, Aug. 18.
Ayodele called on the general public to report any unscrupulous act or strange movement to the corps or the closest security agent around them.
The NSCDC statement came as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Osun Command, Mrs. Folashade Odoro, also assured residents and visitors of security during the festival.
Odoro warned that anyone caught perpetrating crime before, during and after the festival would be arrested and prosecuted.
She warned parents to monitor their children and wards to avoid all forms of crime during the period.
